Assistive Technology Services
Request an Assessment
Whether you are an individual navigating vision loss, a rehabilitation counselor supporting a client, an employer arranging accommodations, or a school planning for a student, an assistive technology assessment gives you a clear picture of what technology is needed and what training will make the biggest difference.
Our assessments are practical, individualized, and conducted by professionals who use the same adaptive technologies they teach every day.
We work with individuals, families, rehabilitation counselors, employers, schools, government agencies, veterans programs, insurance agencies, and disability organizations. Whether you are requesting services for yourself or on behalf of a client, we are here to help.
How the Assessment Process Works
Every assessment follows a clear four-step process so that individuals and the professionals supporting them know exactly what to expect.
-
Initial Consultation
We begin by learning about the person's goals, current technology use, daily tasks, and the barriers they are facing. This conversation shapes the entire evaluation.
-
Hands-On Evaluation
We observe how the person interacts with technology today and explore different tools in their real environment, whether that is at home, at work, at school, or remotely.
-
Recommendations
We identify the assistive technology solutions and training approaches that best match the individual's goals, skill level, environment, and available funding.
-
Written Report
A clear professional report documents all findings and recommendations. Reports can be used for agency service planning, IEP teams, employer accommodations, insurance, or personal reference.
Types of Assessments We Provide
Every assessment is tailored to the individual. These are the most common types we provide across different settings, populations, and goals. Not sure which one fits? Select "Not sure yet" on the request form and we will help you figure it out.
-
Assistive Technology Evaluation
A comprehensive evaluation of technology needs and current skill level. We assess which screen readers, magnification tools, braille devices, or other solutions are the best fit for the individual's goals and daily environment. This is the most common starting point for individuals and agency referrals.
-
Workplace Accommodation Assessment
We evaluate the worksite, specific job tasks, and the employee's technology needs to identify practical accommodation solutions. Useful for employers supporting a staff member with vision loss, and for rehabilitation counselors planning employment services.
-
Educational Technology Assessment
For students in K through 12, transition programs, or college, we assess what assistive technology is needed to support access to curriculum, assignments, and school platforms. Reports are written to support IEP teams, Section 504 plans, and disability services offices.
-
Independent Living Technology Assessment
For individuals managing daily life with vision loss, we evaluate technology needs for reading mail, managing appointments, online banking, shopping, communication, and smart home use. Focused on building real independence in everyday life.
-
Veterans Technology Assessment
Tailored assessments for veterans who are blind or have low vision covering computer access, smartphone use, screen reader training needs, and adaptive technology for employment, education, or independent living. Respectful, practical, and goal focused.
-
Digital Skills Assessment
An evaluation of current digital skill level, identifying both strengths and gaps. Useful for rehabilitation planning, training program development, or documenting baseline skills for agencies, employers, or schools that need measurable starting points.
